Cang Lang Ting, which translates as "Blue Wave Pavilion", is one of the oldest gardens in Suzhou. It dates from the Five Dynasties period at the end of the 1st millenium AD! The garden takes its name from a pavilion named "Blue Wave Pavilion", situated on a rockery near the entrance to the garden.Today, it's one of the less-visited gardens in Suzhou. This is great as it means that you'll actually be seeing the garden itself rather than hordes of tour groups!Admission is 20 RMB from 16/4 to the end of October, and 15 RMB for the rest of the year; no student price.

There're a number of small shops selling kitschy notebooks ("Communist-style" or featuring Zhujiajiao), nostalgic postcards (featuring Zhujiajiao and Shanghai), matchboxes and other little knick-knacks in Zhujiajiao. These are good souvenirs, especially if you need to bring back little keepsakes for people back home -- unbreakable, small and easy to carry.Generally about 10 RMB for a pack of 5 postcards, or 10 RMB for a notebook.

The outside of the bar is eye-catching -- it was so trendy, I thought I wasn't in Zhujiajiao! The front has a big window looking into the bar. Unfortunately we were there in the daytime. When I passed by, there was a poster advertising an event (long past!) at another bar in Shanghai. Part of the illustration was a comedic adaptation of a Communist poster featuring Karl Marx and gang. Not sure how long it'll stay in the window, but I sure had some good laughs at that!

I was attracted by the mural on the side wall of this cafe. You'll have to see it for yourself. :)The simple menu hanging in the window offers beer, tea, snacks, fresh juice, milk tea, noodles, popcorn, shaved ice... too bad I didn't have time to stop for longer! From the window I also caught a glimpse of a shisha pipe. The cafe offers free wi-fi Internet.

The biggest bridge in Zhujiajiao is Fangsheng Bridge. On the bridge you could get a good bird's-eye view of the surrounding area. "Fangsheng" means "to set free", the traditional Buddhist custom of setting free small animals such as turtles, fish and such so as to accrue good karma. Here there're aunties with plastic bags of small fish which they try to sell to visitors and other passers-by for this "good" purpose. However I think these poor creatures are only going to be caught again by these people right after you set them free, so as to keep their "wheel of prosperity" running. So, don't be taken in!
